Ra (they/them/doll) is currently serving as lead visionary. Furthering the mission of Sister's Action Team in collaboration with the Founder, D. Makeda Johnson and a decentralized coalition of Black + Black queer feminist organizers and cultural workers throughout the Southeast.
In addition to their work as an educator at Spelman College, they are co-convenor of the spiritual-political education project The Church of Black Feminist Thought.
the work of embodied spiritual-political education is what bell hooks, citing Thich Naht Hanh and Paulo Friere termed engaged pedagogy + practice. We aspire to establish a practice of community-accountable service inspired by the Buddhist principle of Dana - giving freely - and the Black South tradition of Social Aid and Pleasure Clubs.
As we face the mounting crises of our time, ecological , genocide and imperial violence across the world, and the lack of resources for black feminist students, artists, and organizers to support their well-being — we are working to establish a pathway for getting resources to those most in need.
Currently, in the wake of Hurricane Helene, these efforts are concentrated on those doing direct relief work in the Southeast with a focus on Small Town and Rural Georgia.
